T*ts, Bits, and Politics! Extravagant Shambles doesn’t hold back!

Cadbury Parfait at Extravagant Shambles Tits Bits and Politics May 23 2019 by Suzanne ForbesAll the issues were on the table at the latest production of Extravagant Shambles, at beloved queer clubhouse Monster Ronsons.

Of course, there was producer Cadbury Parfait doing her fabulous “Miss Brexit” act, with its EU banner reveal which brings down the house, and the moment when she discards the stinky ol’ British flag, seen above! Her full costume and the EU reveal, below!

Skirt Vonnegut at Extravagant Shambles Tits Bits and Politics May 23 2019 by Suzanne ForbesSkirt Vonnegut dared to touch the topic of US politics.

There was a wicked reveal! Skirt Vonnegut is always political 🙂

Lord Hicks at Extravagant Shambles Tits Bits and Politics May 23 2019 by Suzanne ForbesLord Hicks sang about “cottaging” in the old days of gay London.

He was hilarious though the topic was tough.

Peaky Blinders at Extravagant Shambles Tits Bits and Politics May 23 2019 by Suzanne ForbesThis performer did a gorgeous genderplay on Peaky Blinders.

Which I haven’t seen yet! Weirdly, since I adore Cillian Murphy. I also adore genderplay burlesque, going back to the 80s when I watched Victor/Victoria on HBO about a million times!

And Stella von Fersen tempted us all as a Devil, but because she stripped down to pasties, I can’t put that drawing here!

Always a pleasure to draw Ms. von Fersen! You might find the drawing on my sexy site, with the title using just my name 🙂

Last but not at all least, comic cosplay got real with incredible pole-dancer Jupiter Gatling and  Queen of Harleens Adrian. Jupiter Gatling and Adrian at Monster Ronsons July 24 2019 by Suzanne Forbes

A special night at Monster Ronson’s!

My friend and Patron Robert Wimpory is a bastion of the indie music scene in Berlin.

He goes to see everyone’s shows, all the time. (“I try to support the scene”, he will say modestly when complimented on his showing up for the community.) Plus he has a band or two and is in the OK!Chorus and often co-hosts Uke Boogie and of course, also has a (really cool) job! And he is an archivist and curator of his own history, like I am, and has a wild collection of video and film from the 80’s. Here’s his YouTube channel!

So his birthday had to be celebrated at queer Berlin clubhouse Monster Ronsons, home of Pansy’s House of Presents, Merlin’s Berlin, Loving The Alien, and so much more. This is Robert with bumBlechum, above. They played “Disco Knicks” and threw masses of underwear aka pants out into the crowd.

Disco knicks! Shake your disco rear!

The crowd had a blast, as you can see!

One of my very favorite things about going to events in Berlin is that the crowds are of all ages. It’s rare that I am the only middle-aged person; often there are lots of us!Party at Monster Ronsons by Suzanne Forbes March 25 2019

And this is the lead singer of Pump Gang, below, who played some serious 90s hits.

I was listening to alt-radio for the 90s so I didn’t know most of them! Plus, there is a whole Euro-dance thing that is very specific to this side of the Atlantic, like the Vengaboys, who I only learned about last year. Apparently, they were a THING!

Pump Gang at Monster Ronsons by Suzanne Fprbes Marc 14 2019I had to tip out suddenly partway through Pump Gang’s set, as the decibel level was just too much for me. But nobody ever judges me for doing what’s best for me, in this community <3

I am so very grateful to my Patrons on Patreon, whose monthly financial support makes it possible for me to document Berlin life and art!

Das Flüff “Anxiety Dreams” release party at Monster Ronsons

Das Fluff Anxiety Dreams release party at Monster Ronsons Sept 28 2018 Suzanne ForbesI was feeling wrecked but I got myself out the door to see Das Flüff, because I knew I would be glad I did.

As always, frontwoman Dawn Lintern and her lineup of sexy Gen-X rockers burned the place down. Wendy, on bass, is a woman Dawn played with in their twenties, and they were back on stage together in the 21st Century, making post-punk electric filth!!

Dawn and Misty at Das Fluff Anxiety Dreams release party at Monster Ronsons Sept 28 2018 by Suzanne ForbesFormer bandmate Misty joined in for a bit to spell Joe Sparkle, recovering from some time in hospital. I drew him with Das Flüff the first time I saw them so it was fun to draw him again 🙂

Rah Hell films Dawn at Das Fluff Anxiety Dreams release party at Monster Ronsons Sept 28 2018 by Suzanne ForbesHere is Rah Hell being the videographer!

Seeing a woman my own age dominate the stage and growl and rage was good medicine this week. Das Flüff always sounds amazing and leaves it all out there. You can buy the new album “Anxiety Dreams” here, follow on Instas here and check out the upcoming London and Vietnam tours here. Thank you, Dawn, for being an inferno of sound and fury. I needed it.

Feminist performance art in East Berlin: Mad Kate at Monster Ronsons!

Mad Kate performs at Monster Ronsons Sept 20 2018 by Suzanne ForbesI was at Monster Ronsons last week for a double feature of performance artist Mad Kate and my friend Dawn’s band Das Fluff.

Mad Kate played the stripper pole, using a sensor on the bottom of their platform shoe. It was very, very cool. You can follow Mad Kate on twitter here, Instas here, and their website here.Mad Kate plays the stripper pole at Monster Ronsons Sept 20 2018 by Suzanne Forbes

The dance floor was full of beautiful young queer folx.

The joy, fury and strength of young queer people in Berlin! They are living their way into a better world, and it sustains me.

Merlin’s Berlin at Monster Ronson’s!

Merlin Dietrich at Monster Ronsons by Suzanne Forbes April 14 2018Merlin’s Berlin is a queer mini-music-fest hosted by glamorous Merlin Dietrich.

Merlin Dietrich at Merlins Berlin Nr 6 by Suzanne Forbes April 16 2018I went to the sixth edition at the renovated Monster Ronson’s.

What a lovely time! I enjoyed all the acts tremendously. Merlin himself performed some of his amazing super-earworm gay love songs plus some cuts from his upcoming album. He is fabulously erudite and wildly sexy and his songs are mad clever. I was delighted to get a chance to draw him and Mr. Chips!

Wrench and Franks at Merlins Berlin Nr 6 by Suzanne Forbes April 16 2018Gentlemen troubadours Wrench and Franks performed pop songs from another century. They are so good!

You can see their cool animations here and their torch songs from times past here. They made a bananapants video for Merlin’s song “Flying Out to Berlin” with a creepy marionette which you can enjoy here.

Das Fluff at Merlins Berlin Nr 6 by Suzanne Forbes April 16 2018The headliner was Das Fluff, with a new lineup including dear friend Joe Sparkle and Angel Melodyhorn.

They were great! Frontwoman Dawn Lintern was in a truly spectacular outfit featuring a snakeskin corset and hoop skirt. She is a snarling, seductive, ferocious performer who leaves it all on the stage. If you want to catch the filthy, raging Das Fluff live show, look here – they are playing everywhere all the time, in London, Berlin and Japan.

Dawn Das Fluff at Merlins Berlin Nr 6 by Suzanne Forbes April 16 2018There was lots more at Merlin’s Berlin but I couldn’t draw it all, especially by the light of TWO disco balls. As always, I am so grateful to my Patrons on Patreon, whose monthly financial support makes it possible for me to document Berlin life and art!

If you would like to see a very entertaining video and don’t mind having a song stuck in your head for the next two days, check out Merlin Dietrich’s video for Like/Unlike.

I have never in my life seen anything more charming than Berlin’s “Advanced Style” icon Günther Krabbenhöft dancing.

Iggy’s swan song at Loving The Alien by Suzanne Forbes July 20 2017

After a year and a half of passing it whenever I went to and fro from teaching at ESDIPBerlin!

Loving the Alien by Suzanne Forbes July 20 2017I went with Suzanne Wegh, to see “Loving The Alien”, a musical that several folks I know are involved in. Delighted surprise when a woman I know was also manning the door!

Iggy and Mandy by Suzanne Forbes July 20 2017We were kindly seated in the front row, so I could draw.

It was a great show with really terrific songs, a cracking band and fabulous dancers.

Spaceman at Loving the Alien by Suzanne Forbes July 20 2017Lots of homage not just to Bowie but to other icons of glam like my beloved T. Rex.

Afterwards I went backstage and finished my drawings while the performers changed, just like Degas or Toulouse-Lautrec, except gayer and with more glitter!
